On Friday 28 April Riverston will be helping me raise money for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young
Suicide by having a non-uniform day. Pupils will pay £1 to wear their own clothes for the day,
and on this day a number of students will also be taking part in a sponsored silence.
PAPYRUS is an amazing UK charity that exist to reduce the number of young people who take
their own lives; it was founded by a group of parents who each lost a child to suicide. PAPYRUS
provide support and advice to young people, as well as anyone worried about a young person,
through their helpline.
Plus, they engage communities in suicide prevention projects and deliver
training programmes, which includes equipping local councils, healthcare professionals and
school staff with suicide prevention skills. Their work is so important as suicide is the biggest
killer of young people under 35 in the UK.
