🎉 A Look Back at Riverston’s Remarkable Journey
As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2026, we’re reflecting on some of the moments that have shaped Riverston School into the inclusive, community-focused place it is today.
In 2016, we proudly celebrated 90 years of education and growth with a special initiative: 90 events across the year that brought our students, staff, and families together in joyful celebration.
🌟 Highlights included:
🎈 A school-wide balloon release, where pupils formed the number “90” on the playground before filling the sky with red balloons
🚶♀️ A collective walk around Sutcliffe Park, with students and staff walking one mile loops to reach a shared goal of 90 miles in a single afternoon
🎉 A year-long calendar of creative, active and community-based events to honour this important milestone
📚 Our History:
Riverston School was founded in 1926 and became a family-run school in 1956 when it was acquired by the Lewis family. Professor Michael Lewis MBE and his wife, Janina, played an instrumental role in shaping the school’s inclusive ethos and development for decades. In 2016, their lasting legacy was honoured with a farewell ceremony and a commemorative plaque.
From its beginnings as a small independent school to becoming a specialist setting supporting students from 1–21, Riverston has always been a place where every child is valued, understood, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Here’s to the next chapter, and to 100 years of Riverston 🎓💫
