Curriculum
At Riverston we work with a range of young people with different abilities, backgrounds and needs. The common factor with all is that they have struggled to achieve their potential in the Mainstream school system.
This is most often because the child is expected to fit the system, whereas our ethos is to fit the education around the child. Our bespoke pathways and creative approach to the curriculum aim to tailor our offering to the needs of the young person. This is especially true of our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 pathways, where we balance being ambitious with being innovative and highly child-centred.
We operate with a 9-period day, including Form Time in the morning. Classes range from 2 students to a maximum of 10, with a high level of adult support.

We actively ensure that pupils are given bespoke academic experiences, often tailor-made to meet individual and different needs. Our distinctive curriculum is designed to ensure that mainstream, gifted and talented, as well as pupils with special educational and learning needs, are challenged and developed in a way to prepare them for future life for both academic and vocational routes.

- In our 16+ provision we ensure that a programme of study appropriate to pupils’ needs is in place. All pupils are given the opportunity to learn and make progress whilst preparing for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of an independent life in British society.
- In addition, we specifically ensure that all pupils with Autism and other mild to moderate Special Educational Needs are given the support to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.
